If they actually go to a gym and do weights, they do the equivalent of 2 sets of a standing arnold press variation + point 10 below. 3. They do the above after a laboured 40 mins spread over the treadmill and eliptical. 4. If they use a stepper, it moves a mere 2cm with a frantic yet non-demanding effort. 5. They drink copious amounts of alcohol (often matching the boys), especially in a binge manner for "Friday after work drinks" 6. They do no exercise on the weekend because they are hungover from Friday. 7. They eat kebabs and pizza whilst drinking. 8. They then believe an iPod walk around the river at 5km/h will reverse the above efforts. 9. They ask 'what's a supplement?' 10. They follow their idiot 100kg fat boy boyfriend's diet (just in smaller portions) who trains like a lazy 16 year old still busy trying to get big arms doing cable curls supersetted with tricep kickbacks.

I'm a cyclist, and have resistance on the highest of the high....and that's only when its crappy outside and I have to get a ride in. so keep spinning ladies, but dont go home and gorge after just because you "worked out" :)

Soya shrinks your brain ! thats bull, dairy is for cows and gives humans cancer , people who re brainwashed into believing humans should consume dairy are fools , the lowest rates of breast cancer in the world are in the continents where the dairy consumption per capa is at its lowest , dairy in forced on people in western society from an early age and its rubbish for the body, giving you -kidney stones , skin problems, etc. People need to question what industries push on people , Dairy is not for human consumption and I would never give it to children

Yes I agree Dairy gives humans breast cancer amongst other illnesses which are started at young ages. Society will never acknowledge this as there is too much to be lost in the dairy industry , human health comes last I am afraid , all these protein products with milk based proteins are so harmful and people who consume these are really under educated regarding proper healthy food stuffs

Evidence about the effects of soy is inconclusive. It contains phytoestrogens that can act as weak estrogens at very high levels, but it has been found to be protective against breast cancer in premenopausal women. And there is not evidence AT ALL that soy, or any other dietary practice, causes manganese toxicity. Manganese isn't even that bioavailable through food. And tofu has a good protein to fat ratio, so it is an excellent choice for vegetarians who do not want to eat meat for moral reasons. Diary IS pro-inflammatory,btw, and as we age we lose the ability to properly digest it. This is not to say that you shouldn't drink dairy, but if you must drink it- do so consistently over time to not lose your lactase enzymatic capacity. All in all- as a marathoner, nutritionist, and personal trainer- I can tell you that this article contains AWFUL advice. It is no wonder women are over weight in this country! They are consistently confused by HORRIBLE consumer information. Exercise, eat all varieties of food that are close to their natural origin, watch your portions, and be positive.

@joanna, you are absolutely right, people are consistently confused by horrible consumer information. Good thing you fell on Charles articles, so i suggest you update your knowledge on soy. On another note, I wonder what is the percentage of female figure, or olympian athletes, who use soy and cereals as a source of protein in their diet? What is your percentage of success? Good luck on your marathons....

Great article, a few spelling/grammar issues but got it. Love how there are people that jump on it start preaching how Charles is wrong. I say if you think he's wrong prove it, become a world renowned strength and conditioning coach that's trained countless Olympians then you can host a conference and argue about it there. Charles hasn't said a word since posting it and is probably laughing his head reading how wound up some people get.

@ joanna, Charles is doing more for overweight individuals in the States than you obviously have realised having read just one of his 'light hearted articles.' Take a good look throughout the website read his articles figure out for your self why his content is so revolutionary take his bio-signature programme for example. I can see where his frustrations lie I work as a PT in a commercial gym, day to day I see the spin class ladies waddling out - ordering their coffees, I see the gym's 'nutritionist' endorsing low fat, high fructose syrup bars to the members. I happen to tell my boss that group fitness aerobics is worthless and am scorned, I guess as a business model group aerobics is perfect!

For those of you who are questioning charles's knowledge, remember that you are on HIS site where you are reading about HIS knowledge (often based on actual studies). If you do not agree with his sense of humor, calm down, take it with a grain of salt and take what you can get. You don't get to where he has gotten in terms of being a successful strength coach by telling lies. Furthermore, had most of you read charles's previous articles (which have covered all these points thoroughly) you would see that they are almost always based on scientific studies and his personal experience.

To people that think Charles has something against women I do remember him saying top female athletes often work harder than the men....
It's humor and the funny part about it is that there is a lot of truth to it. People in general are dumb wrt to training and nutrition, which includes men, but I know I certainly see that women especially have very warped ideas on diet and how to get in shape. And haven't you read his other funny smart ass posts about other subjects? It's all in fun and it's only funny because there is truth in them.

Anna, because of the hormonal response and lack of increased RMR compared to weights ot HIIT. Plus traditional cardio promotes fat storage around working muscles. It burns fat in muscles while weight training burns fat under the skin. Calories burned during a workout isn't a good indicator of quality. Plus weight training builds muscle which helps you lose fat while traditional cardio tends to promote muscle loss.

First and foremost, I am a woman. I take no offense to this whatsoever. How dare the individuals that critize Charles Poliquin. Unless you have the extensive knowledge, training, and experience that he attains I would keep my mouth shut. He's making a joke, laugh. Pull the stick out and get over yourselves. Charles does not think that ALL women are like this. There is always an exception I mean he has a daughter, hello! But yes, this is what a VAST majority of women do. It is a wake up call to beware of the things you put on and in your body.
