Sleep And Hangovers - One Formula For Both?

Since posting
this article on one of our most popular formulas, P1 P2 Balance, I have received a great deal of positive feedback. I’ve heard back regarding benefits that I expect clients to experience; improved detoxification experience, fewer or no “healing crisis” symptoms, mental clarity and greater energy. While these are to be expected, I’ve also been told of some of the lesser known uses for P1 P2 Balance—uses that would fall into the “off-label use” category—although when the physiology is understood, these benefits are not at all surprising.
One of these lesser known uses for P1 P2 Balance is improving sleep. While most people would never use nutrients like green tea, ellagic acid, watercress or the vitamins and minerals in P1 P2 Balance as “sleep enhancers,” the results and the physiology are clear. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) experts have long known that sleep disturbances are indicative of disharmony in the body. We know that waking between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. suggests excess free radical activity and/or insufficient antioxidant capacity. TCM also teaches us that waking between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. generally tells us that there is an issue with the liver, as the liver meridian activity peaks around 3 a.m. As a result, one of the often overlooked ways to address a sleep disturbance at this time is to address liver health. By balancing liver function and providing nutrients designed to nutritionally support the liver, many clients find that their sleep issues are resolved. In addition, P1 P2 Balance provides potent antioxidants which can help with free radical disrupted sleep as well. This is why P1 P2 Balance is an excellent choice when there are unexplained sleep issues or to try when chronically waking between 1 and 5 a.m.—especially if experiencing sleep disturbances during a detox or an estrogen cleanse program.
Another use for P1 P2 Balance doesn’t exactly fall under the functional medicine umbrella, but many of your clients will love you for this one—especially at this time of year—as a hangover preventer. Before you ask, the answer is no: I do not have any double-blind studies from PubMed that support this claim. What I do have is feedback from numerous self-volunteering “test subjects” that have reported significant reductions in hangover symptoms. There’s even a Doctor of Osteopathy in Texas that shares 2 capsules with each of her guests prior to her holiday gatherings and they rave about the results. Since alcohol puts such a heavy stress on the liver, the physiology makes sense, but let’s be clear—this is not license to overindulge—you knew I had to get that disclaimer in there at some point.
If you’re using P1 P2 Balance for nutritional support for sleep, I recommend 2 capsules an hour or two before bed. If you’re using it for reducing hangover symptoms, I suggest 2 capsules before your festivities and then 2 more before bed.
