YIN BUILDER Q & A

Q. I’ve been told my adrenals are “fatigued.” As a wife and working mom, I’m definitely tired most of the time and I still feel stressed out. Any thoughts?
A. My first thought is that you need to be sure to take time for yourself. Whether you’re trying to be mom, wife, employee, employer or some combination of these, if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be of any use to anyone. I call it the Lifeguard or Firefighter Rule—if you’re risking your own health to help others then eventually you won’t be able to help them either. As far as supplements go, my favorite herbal combination for what you described can be found in Yin Builder. Yin Builder is an adaptogenic formula which takes the guesswork out of adrenal support by boosting adrenal output when depleted and calming output when overstimulated. It contains cordyceps, panax ginseng and rhodiola rosea—three of my favorites. You’ll soon recover all that energy you should naturally have.
Q. Charles, I keep hearing how bad cortisol is. Should we just always try to block all cortisol?
A. Great question. First of all, cortisol isn’t some communist plot to destroy the Western world. Cortisol actually helps with injury repair, energy production and even memory. Cortisol is supposed to be elevated in the morning and then gradually decline throughout the day. When this natural “cortisol curve” is reversed or flattened is when we have problems. This alteration leads to low energy, aches, mood issues, sleep problems, loss of muscle and the most well-known problem—fat around the middle. Blocking cortisol is too simplistic. A more complete approach is to nourish the adrenals with Yin Builder by taking 1-2 capsules in the morning and 1-2 capsules in the afternoon. The adaptogenic herbs should help you get your curves back in all the right places.
Q. I’ve been using Yin Builder and getting great results. I have more energy and I’m sleeping better too. Can I keep using it even though my adrenal function seems to be fixed?
A. Absolutely. Cordyceps and Panax ginseng are both used in Chinese medicine for recovering after exhaustion or long-term illness. Since it’s an adaptogenic formula, long-term use can have a protective effect against the ongoing stressors in our lives. Once you’re feeling recovered you can continue at 1 capsule in the morning.
Q. Okay, what’s in Yin Builder that’s giving me killer workouts? My workout capacity and strength have gone up and I’m not really getting fatigued like before.
A. It’s interesting that you’ve noticed that. I’ve used this formula for that exact use before with clients. To answer your question, cordyceps has been shown to increase ATP and the rhodiola rosea in Yin Builder has a history of use with Soviet military and Olympians for increasing their work capacity and recovery rates. I’m glad you’re seeing the same results.
